`I`iwi on `Oha wai Giclée by Gretchen Grove
Found nowhere else in the world, the spectacular scarlet-feathered `I`iwi is the last of the Hawaiian sickle-billed honeycreepers.
The plant, `Oha wai, is endangered and was thought to be extinct until a few were discovered in the 1970’s. Now propagated in greenhouses and out planted in native forests, it wasn’t until 2008 that `I`iwi were seen feeding in them, most likely because `I`iwi had forgotten them as a food source.
This giclée is from an original hand-colored linoleum block print by Gretchen Grove.
