Join us for the Fabulous Gourd Workshop on June 6th from 9am – 1pm at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus. Cost for the workshop is $35 and $30 for VAC Members plus a $30 Supply Fee. No basic skills are necessary.
The art of gourd decoration is an ancient tradition handed down through generations amongst many indigenous peoples. To learn some traditional and not-so-traditional gourd decorating techniques join Jelena Clay in her “Fabulous Gourd” workshop at Volcano Art Center.
Discover how to select, prepare and decorate a gourd utilizing various types of design and decorating techniques including patterns, surface embellishments, stains and dyes.
Class fee includes pre-cleaned and prepared gourd ready for decorative treatments, plus the use of the instructor’s dremel and wood burners. Beginning and experienced levels ages 16 and up are welcome.
Clay is a master fiber artist who has produced an ever-increasing variety of contemporary and traditional work in every natural fiber she can find. Her interest in all Hawaiian art forms naturally led her to gourds.
