The designs of Micah L.K. Kamohoali‘i will be featured in this solo exhibition of art and artifacts inspired by ancient stories and executed by his ancestral memory. Kamohoali‘i began making kapa as a child through skills passed down through many generations and today creates kapa as living pieces of art. Hula has been a part of Micah Kamohoali‘i life from the age of three. Through the dance tradition he learned the history of his people. These stories he continues to share through the instruction of the ancient tradition of hula as Kumu Hula to Hālau Nā Kīpuʻupuʻu.
Under his direction, Hālau Nā Kīpuʻupuʻu will open the art exhibition with a Hula Kahiko performance on Saturday, March 28 beginning at 10:30am in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Kamohoali‘i and his halau will be on hand after the performance displaying the unique hand-made regalia and props used.
Join the artist for an opening reception from 5:00–7:00pm on March 28. The exhibition is open daily through April 19 from 9:00am–5:00pm at Volcano Art Center Gallery.
