Workshop-Movement

Join Karen Masaki for Dance Imagined at Volcano Art Center on Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Class dates are May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

Imagining dance – whatever can be felt or seen with the inner eye is the inspiration for physical movement. Volcano Art Center’s Dance Imagined classes, with instructor Karen Masaki, will explore basic movement technique, building strength and fluidity in the joints and spine to support the pure exhilaration of movement.

The one-and-a-half hour class begins with a general warm up, moving through all body parts to get the blood flowing and joints loosened. Attention will then shift to explorations of spinal and joint movements and breathing exercises to build fluidity and strength.

An improvisational dance segment follows, accompanied by a wide range of music, from classical to rock. Improvisational cues and visualizations will provide a starting point from which to expand and explore.

Cost for a single class is $20/$15 VAC members or $50 for the entire series (paid in advance) for both VAC members and non-members.

This class is appropriate for all who love to move. No dance experience is necessary.
