Maui Slowing The Sun, print L79, by Dietrich Varez. One of the demi-god Maui’s many famous deeds was slowing the sun so that his mother Hina might have more daylight to dry her kapa. He anchored his rope to a wili-wili tree and stands among silversword (hinahina) plants found only at Haleakala on the island of Maui.
