ʻAhuʻula O Kamehameha by Carl F. K. Pao
“The ʻahuʻula or feather cloak is one of, if not the highest symbol of oneʻs rank or importance in Hawaiian culture. Kamehameha was known for his all yellow cloak. The moʻolelo tells of how he gathered all of the yellow feathers from the various other chiefs that he had conquered over time. Instead of the cloak representing this aspect of Kamehamehaʻs unification of the islands, the cloak represents protection: the protection that a cloak can provide to its bearer, but also for the people who’s kuleana is to oversee for their well being and prosperity.” – Carl
