Pueo’s Flight Made Bright by the Moon, Sculpture by Elizabeth Miller & Jonathan Sudler.
Made from Hawaiian Basalt, hand-tooled aluminum and a koa base.
The stunning beauty, stealth, and spiritual power of the artists’ personal encounters with Pueo ying through Volcano’s koa forest as the moon rose at sunset inspired this sculpture. When Jonathan rst laid eyes on this piece of basalt sticking out of the ground, he saw pueo in it. Hawaii’s native owl took shape as he carved in his characteristic curvy style. Elizabeth then shaped her hand-tooled metal feathers to accentuate the dynamic rhythm of pueo’s ight and to re ect the silvery light of the moon.
This piece is part of our beautiful Sculpture Garden presented at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.
