Homage To The King by Laura Walker
“This fabric wrist cuff’s central image of King Kamehameha represents hours of trial and error of what was originally going to be an oil painting. After working on this for a month, and feeling uninspired, I had a realization that I needed to work with textiles instead of paint.
I then printed my final image of the King onto cotton and began the many layers of embellishment. I wanted it to look royal and rich with it’s rich colors and fabric and jewels.
The statement the person who wears this piece should say is, “I honor King Kamehameha and I want others to know”.” -Laura
