Join Lisa Louise Adams for an Adult “Handbuilding” with clay workshop! There will be an evening and afternoon session: Tuesday evenings starting September 20, from 6:30pm – 8:30pm and on Thursday afternoons starting September 22, from 2:30pm – 4:30pm. . Cost for the either workshop is $125/$113 for VAC Members plus a $25 materials fee. Please bring a towel!
“Handbuilding” is working with clay by hand using only simple tools, not the pottery wheel. Before potters had the wheel, they were creating beautiful pots and clay forms using clay, their hands and fingers, and basic hand tools.
In fact, coils of clay can be used to build bowls, vases and other forms in various shapes and sizes.
According to Handbuilding instructor Lisa Louise Adams, “This workshop is a great way for everyone to experience clay. Not many have access to clay, brushes, glazes and a chance to learn and fire their clay in a kiln!”
Now you can join instructor Lisa Louise Adams for six, fun weeks of playing with clay. Learn how to coil, pinch and slab-build form, manipulate and carve then let dry, get fired, paint on glazes and fire again! If you already know how to throw, wheels will be available.
Working with clay is quite a process and so much fun! According to one student, “This is an affordable opportunity to learn and make ceramics.” Another said, “There’s nothing I didn’t love about the workshop!” On a more practical note one student commented, “It was such a blast!”
