Workshop-MovementJoin Karen Masaki for Dance Imagined at Volcano Art Center on Tuesday mornings from 10am – 11:30am. Class dates are; 9/13, 9/20, 9/27 and 10/4. Cost for a single class is $20/$15 VAC members or $40 for the entire series for both VAC members and non-members.

Smooth, spikey, graceful, flailing, focused, indirect – whatever can be imagined within provides the source for movement without. Volcano Art Center’s Dance Imagined classes, with instructor Karen Masaki, will explore basic dance technique combined with the pure exhilaration of movement.

The 4-session series will start on Tuesday, September 13 at 10:00am. The one and a half hour workshop begins with a general warm up, moving through all body parts to get the blood flowing and joints loosened. Attention will then shift to the basics of modern dance technique with emphasis on alignment, strengthening the legs and feet, working from the core, and increasing expressive potential through the torso and arms.

An improvisational dance segment follows, accompanied by music ranging from classical to rock to jazz to alternative. Classes will end with a movement and breathing exercise drawn from Juliu Horvath’s GYROKINESIS® methodology.

This class is appropriate for all who love to move. No dance experience is necessary and the technique portion will be a basic introduction.
