`Ohe kāpala is the art of bamboo stamping. `Ohe or bamboo is one of the original “canoe plants” brought to Hawai`i by the early Polynesian settlers in their oceanic voyages, and is the kinolau of Kāne. In the kapa cloth-making process, ‘ohe sticks were cut out to create designs that were then stamped with dye into intricate geometric patterns on the kapa. -Makua Designs
